New Orleans

Thanks to some friends we had the opportunity to visit New Orleans this past weekend. It was a fun spur of the moment trip. And David had only driven through once, and I'd never been there so it was a lot of fun.

This is a picture from inside our hotel. It is very our style of architecture. Older looking with exposed beams.

This is the ferry near the aquarium. Liam was fascinated with the cars going on the boat.

This dinosaur actually roars. Not loud, but enough to get your attention. Liam is convinced dinosaurs aren't real. But that didn't mean he wanted his picture taken with this one. David had to convince him it'd be okay because Daddy was there.

In the tunnel at the aquarium. This was a really good aquarium. I think I liked the one in Monterey better. But who can turn down a good fish tunnel?

Grace wasn't stuck in her stroller the whole time. She didn't mind being in there, but she certainly liked being at eye level with things much more.

It's a giant frog with a crown. There isn't much more to say about it. Although I can't ever seem to manage to get both the kids to look at the camera at the same time. And sometimes I can't seem to get either to do it.

There was a tank where you could pet Stingrays. It was so neat. Liam wouldn't have anything to do with them, but Grace was happy to stick her hand in the water with Daddy. They felt really soft and a little slimy. One of the volunteers there said they were like puppies. I could see it.

We probably spent the most time in the children's play area. They had little jokes on these flip up boards that Liam had David read to him. Then he would go around and tell all the kids that would listen the joke and then he'd laugh and laugh. Grace was happy to help him out.

If given enough time, this girl can climb anything!

Liam likes climbing too. But he's quick and harder to get a picture of.

Later that day we walked around some more. It rained most of the time we were there, but just sprinkles. Needless to say my hair was awful! And that's as good a reason as any why you wont see many pictures of me. But it never stopped the kids. This nice man not only let them touch his trombone, he encouraged it! Grace had to dance along rather than help the gentlemen play.

Despite this being a trombone, Liam declared very firmly that he wants a trumpet as we left. I double checked. He doesn't want a trombone like that, he wants a trumpet.

This picture is foggy because it was SO HUMID that my lens kept fogging up and I had no idea how to make it stop. We had been walking to get breakfast Monday morning before our ride home and we passed the Fire House. A few Firefighters were outside washing the trucks as we walked by. And Liam was having a right fit about having to walk somewhere AGAIN. But the Firefighters promised if he perked up he could sit in the truck. He quickly forgot he was mad about having to walk again.

We had a great trip. It continually reminded David of his summer in Montreal where he walked everywhere and everything you needed was right at your finger tips. No getting in the car driving to Wal-mart. I enjoyed all the walking. And we daydreamed about what it would be like to be city people. Then we returned home to where the Bayou is trying to take back our property. Needless to say, we are still daydreaming.
